GET OUT AND HAVE FUN - Taste of Shanghai

Cheap, tasty, easy to get to and very wheelchair accessible.

Situated on the ground floor of World Square, Taste of Shanghai CBD has straight roll-in access from Goulburn St. and lift access from Liverpool St. There are no steps to enter the restaurant and once in the restaurant it's entirely flat. Tables are well spaced, it's easy enough to get around.

World Square is easily accessible by wheelchair friendly public transport. It is 5 minutes rock n roll down George St. from Townhall train station, where there are multiple exits all equipped with wheelchair friendly lifts. Most bus routes that go from where you are to the city would likely to offer wheelchair accessible services and get you reasonably close to World Square shopping centre. If not sure, just jump on to plan your trip beforehand and don’t forget to tick the 'Accessible services only' box (pictured).

Taste of Shanghai uses the World Square shopping centre's toilet facility and there's a big fully equipped accessible bathroom on the same floor just around the corner from the restaurant. In the unlikely situation this one is out of order, there's another accessible toilet on the floor above. You may have to ask for directions, good news is the security guards are usually easy to find, they are either roaming close by or you can follow the signs and find them at the security office on the same level as Taste of Shanghai.

Taste of Shanghai has all your favourite Chinese dishes cooked to perfection like Peking duck and oyster beef. It also offers authentic Shanghai specialties like crystal prawns and Chinese ham bamboo shoot soup that you wouldn't get from a generic suburban Chinese takeaway. The pan fried pork buns are to die for and the variety of dishes on offer will confuse anyone at first go.

If you have no idea what to order, no worries, as the menu is full of colourful pictures, just point and ask. All the waiters speak good enough English for their job and the services are friendly and professional. It’s not Michelin star service, but they are pleasant enough for a first date.

The place just had a facelift late last year, all their tableware is fully updated and restaurant redecorated. Food is still great, price still attractive. Together with easy wheelchair access, it is a solid 4/5 for me.
